I had a dream the other night.

There was a little toddler in Heaven - the newest resident to arrive in the Golden City. He was howling for his Mom. Everyone tried to calm him, but he was inconsolable. They cuddled him. A choir of angels sang to him. However, the poor little tyke just wanted his Mom.

This had never happened before! Everyone was always happy to arrive. Yes, residents missed their families and friends, but nothing on Earth could ever compare with the bliss they felt once they passed beyond the Pearly Gates.

The angels were determined to find someone who could calm the weeping child. It was not long before they located the perfect mother to care for him.

Mom.

She picked up the child, stroked away his tears, rocked back and forth as she cuddled him close, and hummed softly with her cheek next to his.

In my dream, I started to cry.

Mom's love enveloped the little boy in a blanket of comfort. His wailing turned to quiet sobs, then faded away as he relaxed and sank into contented sleep. Mom smiled, turned, and gazed at me in love.

A mother's love.

I was transported to a soft, warm, comforting place, and Mom's smile grew until it was all I could see in my dream.

I awoke, the aura of her smile penetrating the darkness before my eyes, and thought, 'Heaven will never be the same. Until Mom got there, Heaven was missing something. Now the Golden City is truly perfect.'

We all miss Mom, and we grieve because our lives feel incomplete without her. The grief is like an eternal bottomless pit. However, Mom is with us. All we have to do is remember the wonderful things about her. She will never be gone as long as her memory lives in our hearts.

Mom, we love you and yearn to have you in our lives once more, but we know that you are where you belong - in the arms of a caring God who loves you with a limitless devotion we will never fully comprehend. Mom, we celebrate your life and the caring that you showed us during your brief sojourn on Earth.

Now go! Spread your love to the farthest reaches of the City Foursquare. We will never forget you. We will feel your presence whenever we see a weeping child or a beautiful sunset. We will hear your humming in the wind. We will experience the warmth of your love in everything we do.

You were, and will always be, the perfect Mom.

Farewell.
